FDFF Challenge: NUMB3RS!

Hi again friends and followers! I am here today to share my take on our new challenge over at Frosted Designs! This one was relatively simple, and I was able to put this layout together pretty quickly once I came up with a way to use 'numbers'. Our winner this time gets a lovely prize from Molossi! Also don't forget there are bragging rights for the DT picks for Top 3! I hope you will join us!

For this layout, I wanted the photos to do most of the talking, so I didn't do as much journaling as I normally would. I was originally going to cut each photo apart on the paper once I matted them but I liked to composition of them altogether so I decided to go with it! Once I had them in place, it was easy to place a few other elements around the page to tie it altogether. Here are some pics:

If you can't tell.. I am totally ADDICTED to wood veneer embellishments now. I have bought the travel set, states set, and cameras set from Studio Calico and have more on the way from the new FD shop! I really like them just plain cause they go with any color scheme but also it would be really easy to alter them to any color with mist, paint, ink, etc. That's the best part! I used several little cars and cameras on this page, I didn't want to add flowers or anything cause I felt like it would take away from the geometric look I had going on for the layout. I also added some mini pearls and a few dots of Stickles in Patina. Here is a close up of near the bottom of the page.

For the title, I used 2 different Thickers from the Amy Tangerine collection. The paper is also Basic Grey 'clippings' and the license plate numbers are Tim Holtz. I also stapled a bit, stamped, and hand wrote some things around my photos.

Well that's about it for today! This layout was simple to put together once I had my idea...took me alot less time that one normally would. It was fun to think about how long it took us to drive all the way from Alabama to Oregon this summer! So many memories that I wouldn't trade for anything in the world with my sis! I still have lots of photos from the trip and I will be scrapping alot more of them since I have them all printed up now. Thanks for stopping by, I always really appreciate your comments, they make my day!

Don't forget to link up your project to the Frosted Designs blog no later than Sept 5th to be entered to win the prize and the DT picks for Top 3! Good luck, can't wait to see what you create!!! ;) until next time scrappy friends~VV

FDFF Challenge: Up, Up & Away!

Hello friends. It's another late night here in the Hollister home. I tend to find that I am more and more of a night owl these days. It's not something I've been doing on purpose- staying up until all hours, I just find sometimes that I do my best work then. I enjoy retreating  back to my little scraproom, however small it may be, and spending sometime with all my lovely things, Pandora, a cup of hot tea usually, and Carmella (my kitty!) as my companion. She has her own little fluffy chair right by my Cricut station!

I'm talking about all this because it brings me to this conclusion- scrapbooking is not just simply a hobby for me, it's a release. It's therapy. It's comfort. It's joy. And tonight as I started to think about how I could tackle this challenge, I came across some photos of my Peepaw from 2011. I immediately started tearing up looking at his warm, friendly face. He's no longer with us, and he was such a rock for my family. He was someone I could always go to and ask for help, whether it was advice or simply help with my math homework. He had a full, long life, one to be proud of. After we lost my Meemaw, he even volunteered at the hospital for several years as a way to deal with his grief. He was sort of the unofficial 'mayor' because he was so well known in town. I looked up to him so much. Looking at these photos of his overjoyed expression when he was asked to be a member of Honor Flight South Alabama #6 just made me remember so many happy times with him. The HFSA is a non profit organization that sponsors veterans of WW2 from all 4 branches of the military to get the chance to visit the WW2 monument in Washington D.C. which was just dedicated in 2004. My Peepaw was in the Navy, and I know that this day was a very memorable day in his life! He also got 5 minutes of fame when he was interviewed on our local TV station. I am so honored still to this day to call him my Peepaw, he was such a great man.

Ok, sorry about all the mushy stuff! Here's the pictures of my layout. I did a simpler style that I usually do because I didn't want to take away from these special photos.

So there's plenty of time now if you want to play along with our challenge! Here's the all the info:
Up, Up & Away- your project or layout must include: things that go up... clouds, birds, planes, kites, butterflies, etc. and be uploaded to the Frosted Designs by March 28th. Good luck! You could win some awesome stuff from our Sponsor: Creative Chaos.

Ok Friends, until next time, Peace Y'all! And thanks for listening :)
